American Renaissance (literature) - In American literature, the American Renaissance was the mid-19th century, and especially the period roughly from 1850 to 1855, during which many of the works most widely considered American masterpieces were produced. These included Melville's Moby-Dick, Whitman's first edition of Leaves of Grass, Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables, Thoreau's Walden, and Emerson's Representative Men (though most of Emerson's best-known texts preceded the period slightly).

Peter Hoyle House - A mid- to late-18th century two-story house in Gaston County, North Carolina, the Peter Hoyle House is an important 18th century house due to its notable German-American construction features. The main block of the house reflects two, and possibly three, phases, but the exact construction dates have not been determined, possibly dating anywhere from the mid- to late 18th century.

Mid-century modern - Mid-century modern is a design term applied most frequently to residential (and some commercial) architecture, interior design and furniture. Related to the Space Age, the International style and Googie, mid-century modern translated the ideology of Modernism into a sleek, cool, yet accessible lifestyle.

Maristow House - Maristow House is located in Devon, England, just north of Plymouth, on the River Tavy. It was built circa 1560 and rebuilt in the mid-18th century and further remodelled in the early 20th century.
